Rangoli is a traditional artform that has been practiced for generations throughout the Indian subcontinent. It stems from the Sanskrit word "रङ्ग" which means color. This is an artform that is very rich in traditional and cultural history. For generations now, (usually) the women of the house would practice the art of using dry or wet rice flour in laying out the designs near the threshold of their house; this art was believed to be done to make the guests of the house to feel calm and welcomed.
